SENNETT RECEIVES DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FOR DA

Ulster County Nominating Convention Gives Nod to Jonathan R. Sennett

KINGSTON, N.Y. (June 4, 2007) Jonathan R. Sennett, a Democratic candidate for Ulster County District Attorney, received the party nomination tonight for what is likely to be a historic race.

"For the first time in recent history, we have the opportunity to elect a Democrat as Ulster County District Attorney. We have pulled together as a party and now we must elect the strongest candidate," said Sennett.

Sennett received the nod following a second round of weighted votes from committee members at an event held at The Hillside Manor. "I am deeply honored to receive the nomination and will proceed with a campaign designed to win this post in November," said Sennett.

The Sennett campaign maintains he has the broadest experience of all three challengers seeking to become the next district attorney. Sennett served as a prosecutor in the Bronx District Attorney's Office for five years, where he brought 30 felony cases to trial. "These cases ranged from homicide to gun possession. I managed a team of 10 assistant district attorneys with a case load similar to that of the current Ulster County District Attorney's Office," said Sennett.

The 39-year-old Democrat also have five years experience as a defense attorney in Ulster County. His New Paltz-based private practice has allowed him to argue cases in Family Court, County Court, State Supreme Court and many justice courts, according to Sennett.

"Democrats in Ulster County need to rally behind this nomination and put forth the strongest candidate to face a highly qualified Republican candidate this November," said Sennett.

Sennett's campaign focuses on a platform that seeks to make the Ulster County District Attorney's Office operate more efficiently and effectively. "Evidence needs to be weighed in every case to determine how justice will be best served. We must do more to support law enforcement and modernize the office of the district attorney." said Sennett.

Sennett says he is tough on crime and always seeks to resolve cases in the best interest of justice. "We cannot incarcerate our way out of the crime problem and must seek to find the root causes of crime. By the time a case comes to court it is too late."

It remains unclear whether the two other contenders for the office will seek a Democratic primary in September.
