JONATHAN SENNETT EARNS WORKING FAMILIES PARTY ENDORSEMENT
Candidate for Ulster County District Attorney Holds Two Key Endorsements
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (JUNE 12, 2007) The Working Families Party has endorsed Jonathan R. Sennett, a Democrat candidate running for Ulster County District Attorney, according to campaign spokesman Roger Rosenbaum.
The endorsement comes almost one week after Sennett received the Ulster County Democratic Party endorsement.
The Working Families Party in Ulster County represents an estimated 2,000 voters. "The Working Families Party endorsement is a key vote of confidence to our campaign as we share similar goals," said Sennett.
The Working Family Party's mission is to fight for New Yorkers of ordinary means. "In order to make Ulster County a better place to live, work and play we must focus our attention on the middle class, the working class and the poor. As Ulster County District Attorney, I want families, parents, children, seniors and students to understand that I will fight for justice for everyone in this county."
Sennett's campaign platform has focused on serving the people of Ulster County through more efficient and effective prosecution, protecting special victims, opening lines of communication with law enforcement and responding more rapidly to major crimes.
"Anyone who commits serious crime in Ulster County will face the serious consequences on my watch. We will evaluate each case based on its merits, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach practiced by the current administration," said Sennett.
Jonathan Sennett is a strong proponent of alternatives to incarceration and as a way of handling non-violent felonies and some first time and youthful offenders. "Even though we have a brand new $95 million dollar jail, we cannot incarcerate our way out of the crime problem. We must also seek cost-effective prevention programs to find the root causes of crime," said Sennett.
Jonathan Sennett has five years experience as a prosecutor in the Bronx where he brought 30 felony cases to trial. According to Sennett, he managed a team of ten assistant district attorneys and a case load similar to that of the current Ulster County District Attorney's Office.
For the past five years, Sennett has been a lawyer in private practice in New Paltz where he has handled cases in County Court, Supreme Court, Family Court, Surrogate's Court and many justice courts throughout the county. Sennett has represented clients in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Greene Counties. He is currently a part-time assistant Ulster County public defender.
A primary challenge for the post of Ulster County District Attorney is expected from a Democratic and a non enrolled candidate who has received the Independence Party endorsement. The successful Democratic candidate will face a Republican candidate following the retirement of Ulster County District Attorney Don Williams.
